BIOGRAPHY

At only 4 years old, Rebecca Anne Harrower knew she wanted to be a synchronized swimmer. After her swimming lessons, she would force her mother to stay and watch the “pretty girls in the pink suits” (National Team members training at her local pool). She had to wait two years to get into synchro, but look where it got her! A few years later, in 2013, Rebecca participated at the US Open and placed fourth in figures, a moment she will not forget. The following year, she competed for Canada at the Junior World Championships in Helsinki, Finland. Being selected on that team and representing her country is one of the highlights of her career so far. In 2015, Harrower was selected as a Senior National Team member.

GETTING TO KNOW THE ATHLETE

  • Getting into the Sport: Joined her first pre-competitive team at age 6 because it was the minimum age, but wanted to start from age 4… Saw members of the National Team training at her local pool and wanted to be like them…
  • Outside Interests: Enjoys cooking and baking yummy treats… Also is an avid reader… Studies General Sciences and aspires to work in Engineering…
  • Odds and Ends: Has many nicknames: Rebs, Rebby, Debra, Debs, Debrecca, Rebba… Idol is Clara Hughes because “she persevered through one of the most emotionally draining careers someone possibly could and she still managed to come out a spectacularly successful athlete but also and incredible human being”.
  • Favorite quote: “We may encounter many defeats but we must never be defeated” from Maya Angelou.
  • Why she loves Synchro: “I love synchro because even after all these years I am able to jump in the pool and forget all my problems. I love how it pushes me to become not just a better athlete but also a better person. I have learnt very important life skills such as hard work, determination, group work, confidence etc.”
