ZHANGJIAGANG, China, May 15 – Marie-Pier Boudreau-Gagnon of Rivière-du-Loup, Que., earned her third international gold medal this month on Saturday placing first in the solo free event at the China Open synchronized swimming competition.
Boudreau-Gagnon, the free and technical event champion at the Japan Open two weeks ago, finished ahead of Shi Xin of China and her compatriot Huang Xuechen. Mary Killman of the U.S., took fourth spot.
"The biggest thing for me is to see how consistent I am from one competition to the next," said Boudreau-Gagnon, a bronze medallist at the world championships last year in Rome. "I can’t really say if it was better than in Japan but I’m delighted to produce another strong performance and get the win."
Boudreau-Gagnon’s free program is performed to the music of the rock group Muse. She’ll go for a second gold on Monday in the technical event.
