Ottawa, May 19, 2010 – The 2010 Synchro Canada national teams will perform their routines in an aquatic show at the Claude Robillard Centre pool (1000 ave. Émile-Journault) June 5, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.
The show is being held during the 2010 Canadian Espoir Championships which will attract 150 of the top Tier 6 synchro swimmers in the country. They are vying for berths on the 2010 13-15 national team which will head to the Comen Cup in Greece at the end of July.
The best of Canadian synchronized swimming
Hosted by two-time Olympic medallist and national team mentor Sylvie Fréchette, the one hour show features various performances by Synchro Canada’s national team athletes. They include:
- The national team that won a bronze medal in the combined event at the 2009 FINA World Aquatic Championships which is currently preparing for the FINA World Cup in September;
- Marie-Pier Boudreau-Gagnon, a bronze medallist in the technical solo event at the worlds, in solo and duet with Chloé Isaac.
- The national team that proudly represented Synchro Canada at the German Open and won all the team events.
- The 2010 national junior team members which will compete at the FINA World Junior Championships.
The athletes will perform to songs from rock groups The Muse and Metallica while other themes include Westerns and street dancing.
"As we continue our preparations for the 2010 FINA World Cup, the 2010 FINA World Junior Championships and ultimately the 2012 Olympic Games, this aquatic show is a unique opportunity to see the fruits of our labour here in Montreal," said Ève Lamoureux, one of the national team captains. "We hope the Montreal community will capitalize on this opportunity to see and appreciate the exciting and thrilling routines of their national teams which will proudly represent them at international competitions."
Admission is $8 for ages 12 and over and $4 for ages 6-11. There is no charge for children five and under. Tickets will be available at the door.
