Nearly 430 athletes to battle for spots on the 2010 Canadian national 13-15 team
Synchro Canada’s national teams to perform in aquatic show Saturday, June 5

2010_espoir_logo.jpgOttawa, June 1, 2010 – Canada’s top synchronized swimmers in the Tier 6 category are set to compete at Synchro Canada’s 2010 Canadian Espoir Championships June 3-6 at the Claude-Robillard Centre in Montreal (1000, ave. Émile-Journault).

In all 428 athletes from 48 clubs in nine provinces as well as the Yukon are expected to participate at this event.

The Tier 6 swimmers (15 and under) are vying for berths on the 2010 Canadian national 13-15 team scheduled to compete at the Comen Cup set for Chania, Greece, July 21-25.

In order to participate at the selection camp which follows the competition, they need to rank in the top-25 in figures in the Tier 6 category (15 and under) scheduled for Thursday morning.  The selection camp is scheduled for June 6-7 following the Canadian Espoir Championships at the Claude-Robillard Centre in Montreal.  From the camp, Synchro Canada will select 10 athletes for the 2010 national 13-15 team.

The 428 athletes participating at Synchro Canada’s 2010 Canadian Espoir Championships qualified through the Eastern, Atlantic and Western Divisional Championships held in March.

Synchro Canada’s national teams’ aquatic show
During these championships, Synchro Canada’s national teams will perform their 2010 routines at an aquatic show set for Saturday June 5, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at the Claude-Robillard Centre.

Hosted by two-time Olympic medallist and national team mentor Sylvie Fréchette, the show features various performances by Synchro Canada’s national team athletes.  They include:

  • The national team that won a bronze medal in the combined event at the 2009 FINA World Aquatic Championships which is currently preparing for the FINA World Cup in September;
  • Marie-Pier Boudreau-Gagnon, a bronze medallist in the technical solo event at the worlds, in solo and duet with Chloé Isaac.
  • The national team that proudly represented Synchro Canada at the German Open and won all the team events.
  • The 2010 national junior team members which will compete at the FINA World Junior Championships.

Admission for the watershow is $8 for 16 and over and $4 for 15 and under.  Tickets are available at the door.

Admission for the 2010 Canadian Espoir Championships is $10 each day (16 and over) or $8 a day (15 and under) or $25 for all four days (16 and over) or $15 (15 and under).
