|Calgary Aquabelles and Montreal Synchro 1-2 after prelims at 2011 Canadian Open Championships|
Ottawa, April 29, 2011 – The Calgary Aquabelles and Montreal Synchro stand 1-2 in the junior team competition after Friday’s preliminaries at the 2011 Canadian Open Championships in synchronized swimming.
The Aquabelles showed they were battle ready with a routine about gladiators and totalled 83.566 points. Montreal Synchro swung and swerved to second at 81.216 with a routine about snakes. Toronto’s Granite Synchro is third at 79.117.
‘’We are really happy,’’ said Kaylene Scheil of the Aquabelles. ‘’We had our best swim and showed the judges we could own the pool. It was a big challenge putting this together with a new team but we have trained very hard since September and everyone was dedicated to the program.’’
Sarah Brunin-Brouillette of Montreal Synchro said her team can make the necessary adjustments in the final to close the gap on the Aquabelles.
‘’We are extremely satisfied,’’ she said. ‘’Our coaches were very proud of our performance. It wasn’t perfect and we know we can improve in the final. It’s a very artistic number and it is a lot of fun.’’
In the senior solo technical final, Madison Allen of the Calgary Aquabelles took the gold at 80.834, Janelle Ball of Dollard Synchro in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Que., was second at 80.667 and Brittany Mueller of Aquatica Synchro in Winnipeg was third at 78.500.
