MONTREAL – Canada completed a golden sweep in junior competition on Sunday with a victory in the team event to conclude the 2011 U.A.N.A Pan American Synchronized Swimming Championships. The Canadians, fielding their national junior squad, totalled 77.227 points with the U.S., second at 74.278 and Brazil third at 73.770. The Canadian team members were Claudia Holzner, Kaylene Scheil and Gabriella Brisson, all of Calgary, Laura Dee of Laval, Que., Tess Kruspe of Oakville, Ont., Carlie Cholette of Ottawa, Ont., Lisa Sanders of Gormley, Ont., and Camille Rémillard of La Plaine, Que. ‘’We had a very short time together (two months) to put together this routine but we pulled it off,’’ said Holzner, the team captain and a triple gold medallist this week with victories in solo and duet with Brisson. ‘’Each time out we improved upon the patterns while the energy and endurance were always there. The last routine of a season with a national team is always emotional. Now we go back to our clubs for the winter.’’ In the 13-15 team final, Colombia placed first and the U.S., second. In the 12 and under team final, the U.S., took gold with Mexico second and Synchro Ontario third. In the nations standings: for junior Canada was first, Brazil second and Mexico third; for 13-15, Colombia, U.S.A., and Canada were 1-2-3 and for 12 and under it was the U.S.A., Mexico and Synchro Ontario. Canadian judges at the competition were Josée Daudelin (Saint-Hyacinthe, QC), Jessica Lamontagne (Montréal, QC), Nancy Reed (Beaconsfield, QC) and Diane van der Pol (Markham, ON).
