Synchro Canada finalizes its 2012 National Junior Team coaching staff
The National Junior Team will represent the country at the 2012 FINA World Junior Championships

Ottawa, April 3, 2012 – Synchro Canada is pleased to announce the hiring of Maude Pelchat (Laval, QC, Dollard Synchro) and Johana Vasquez (Terrebonne, QC, Montréal Synchro) as assistant-coaches of Head Coach Jenn Tregale of Calgary for its 2012 National Junior National Team.

This Canadian team will represent the country at the 2012 FINA World Junior Championships, September 12-16, in Volos, Greece.

The coaching staff is the same from 2011 who won gold medals in solo, duet, team and combo at the U.A.N.A. Pan American Synchronized Swimming Championships.

“Following last year performances of the National Junior Team, we have a lot of confidence toward our three coaches this year to lead, with success, at the 2012 FINA World Junior Championships”, said Synchro Canada’s Chief Executive Officer, Catherine Gosselin-Després. “Many of the athletes who will be part of this Junior  Team may also be representing Canada at the next Olympic Games in 2016. This competition is then very important in the preparation of the future of our National Team program as we will start a new quadrennial on the road to the 2016 Olympic Games.”

Maude Pelchat of Laval is currently a coach at Dollard Synchro.  She has also coached at Alliance Synchro and Montréal Synchro.  She is a former synchro swimmer with Montréal Synchro and was a national junior team member in 2002.  Maude Pelchat is an NCCP Level 3 certified coach and has a university degree in communications. In 2011, she was an assistant coach of the National Junior Team. In 2010, She was also an apprentice coach with the National 13-15 Team. In 2009 and 2010, Maude Pelchat was an assistant coach with Quebec’s 13-15 team.
    
Johanna Vasquez of Terrebonne is on the Montréal Synchro coaching staff and head coach of the Synchro Laval club.  After founding and being the head coach at the elite Marquette club  in 1998 she was also a coach at the Dollard Synchro and Rosemont clubs.    Johana Vasquez is currently completing her NCCP Level 4 coaching certificate and she is also has a degree in psychology.  In 2011, she was an assistant coach of the National Junior Team. Johana Vasquez was an assistant coach with the 2010 national 13-15 team. She was Synchro Quebec’s coach of the year for the 2000-2001 season.  

Jenn Tregale, head coach of the Calgary Aquabelles since 2004, was the coach of the 2011 Junior National Team who took part in the U.A.N.A. Pan American Synchronized Swimming Championships in Montreal, August 2011. She was also one of Synchro Canada’s 2010 Junior National Team assistant coaches for the 2010 FINA World Junior Championships Team where Canada won three bronze medals. She has more than 20 years coaching experience in the sport and is currently completing her level 4 NCCP certification.  She was the Junior National Team head coach at the Pan Am Junior Championships in 2009, the National B Team head coach at the 2008 Swiss Open as well as an assistant coach with the National Junior Team at the 2007 U.S. Open Championships.  Jenn Tregale participated as an apprentice coach at the FINA World Junior Championships in 1993 as well as the Commonwealth Games and FINA World Aquatic Championships in 1994.

Synchro Canada’s 2012 National Junior Team athlete pool will be selected following the 2012 Canadian Open Championships, which will be held May 2-6 in Victoria, B.C.
