After watching last week’s Olympic qualifying event and routines of other countries
Ottawa, April 24, 2012 – Canada’s national synchronized swimming team which is currently preparing for the 2012 Olympics, says it is confident and upbeat after seeing routines from many of its opponents at the Olympic qualifying event last week.Canadian athletes and coaches were at the Olympic Aquatic Centre to attend what was a final opportunity to qualify for the London Games. They also took the time to visit London thanks to financial assistance from Own the Podium and support from the Canadian Olympic Committee. ‘’We are confident and upbeat regarding our routines in preparation for London after what we saw last week,’’ said Canadian coach Julie Sauvé. ‘’It will surely be a tight battle between four countries for the three podium stops. But we feel our preparations are going well and we’ll have no regrets on what we can control before and at the Games.’’ Canada was pre-qualified for the Games after winning the gold medal in duet and team at the 2011 Pan American Games. The Canadians therefore capitalized on its status to witness the routines from other countries without revealing its programs for London. In the team event, Canada will face Russia, Spain and Japan, which qualified last week, as well as China, Australia and Egypt which qualified at their respective continental trials. There’ll be 24 entries in duet. The synchro events at the Olympics are scheduled for August 5-10.
