| Calgary Aquabelles win junior team and combo titles at 2012 Canadian Open Championships |
V ICTORIA – The Calgary Aquabelles won hard fought battles for the gold medal in both the junior team and combo competitions on Saturday night at the 2012 Canadian Open Championships in synchronized swimming.In the team event, the Aquabelles placed first with 79.567 points followed by Montreal Synchro in second at 78.453 and Toronto’s Granite Synchro third at 75.412. ‘’This truly was a real battle between us and Montreal,’’ said Aquabelles coach Jenn Tregale. ‘’They really pushed us to be the best we could be. The whole team is very proud of this accomplishment.’’ In the team combination event, the Aquabelles emerged with the gold earning 85.200. Montreal Synchro was second at 84.316 and Granite Synchro third at 78.984. ‘’The team is very proud of the swim, there was lots of energy and passion,’’ said Tregale. ‘’The girls have been working really hard this year, so it's very rewarding to win the title.’’ In the 16-18 team final, the London Synchro Club took the gold at 68.617 with Club aquatique Edouard-Montpetit of Montreal second at 67.067 and Les Vestales of St-Hyacinthe, Que., third at 65.839. In the senior team freestyle final, Waterloo Regional Synchro was first at 67.609 and Winnipeg Synchro second at 64.433. Best overall artistic performance MAKE UP FOR EVER Awards Best overall artistic performance MAKE UP FOR EVER Award were given to the top 13-15, 16-18, junior and senior team based only on the artistic marks during the final. All winning athletes and coaches also received products from MAKE UP FOR EVER.
