Geneviève Bélanger, coming from an athletic family, started synchronized swimming at the age of 9. Her mother, being an ex-synchronized swimmer, has supported Geneviève from the start of her synchronized swimming career.
She fell in love with the sport after watching Sylvie Fréchette perform during the Olympic Games. Geneviève loved the gracefulness and artistic aspect of the sport, as well as the determination, the discipline, the precision and the team spirit that the sport requires.
The Laval native was selected by for the Junior National Team in 2005 and, two years later, was selected for the Senior National Team. Two of her best memories so far are the bronze medal that she won with the Senior National Team in the combo event at the 2011 FINA World Aquatic Championships and her selection in the training team for the London Olympic Games.
An administration and finance student at the Université du Québec à Montréal, Bélanger plans to purse a career as a manager of a large company. She loves to participate in sports and outdoor activities as well as shopping and cooking.
