August 7, 2009 (BELGRADE, SERBIA): Canadian National 13-15 Synchro Team soloist Sarah Brunin-Brouillette of is within reach of the podium after the solo preliminary event at the 2009 Comen Cup in Serbia today. The talented swimmer put in an energetic performance of her solo routine to earn a score of 82.700 and fourth position, a mere one tenth of a point behind third place American rival Alexa Tchekmarev.

“Sarah swam with exceptional technique this morning.  In particular, the spin at the end of her first lap was extremely memorable and noticed by all,” says the team’s Head Coach Chantal Vallieres.

Russian soloist Milena Miteva added another top score to the list of Russia’s successes at this competition, and sits first with 85.300 points. Evangelia Platanioti of Greece is currently second with 84.500 points.

Brunin-Brouillette, who trains throughout the year with the Dollard Synchro Club in Montreal, will join her competitors and teammates in the pool tomorrow morning for the compulsory figures event. The soloists’ figure scores will be combined with their preliminary solo routine scores to determine which athletes advance to the finals. The routine score in the solo finals determines the athletes’ final rankings.

The duet finals will take place tomorrow evening.
